There are other types of racism that are less frequently heard, yet just as ethically wrong. One type of racism, which is actually a bit one-sided, is called internalized racism , which occurs when someone of a given race sees themselves as inferior due to their own color. An example of this was seen for some time during and after slavery and the following segregation. African Americans often saw themselves as being undeserving and of being inferior to whites due to their own poor self-perception, propagated by their mistreatment by whites. It manifested itself, in one way for example, in little black girls choosing white dolls rather than black ones. Their 'internalized' poor perception of themselves made them, whether consciously or subconsciously, choose the 'superior' white dolls.
